What We Believe

We are part of the Christian Reformed Church of North America.

Christian: There is “…one faith that was once and for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). A Christians is someone who receives the Bible as God’s very words where this one faith is clearly communicated. The primary call of this one faith is to trust in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus to grant freedom from and forgiveness of sin. The continuity of this one faith is evident in those churches who profess the teachings of the three Ecumenical Creeds.

Reformed: To be Reformed means our theology and practice originated in the protestant Reformation of the 16th Century. We heartily believe, promote, and defend this theology as it is represented in the Three Forms of Unity, which accurately summarize what the Bible teaches and emphasizes. Some of our distinctives include an emphasis on the holiness and sovereignty of God, the sinfulness of man, the sufficiency of Scripture, and the need for personal conversion through repentance and faith toward Jesus Christ. Conversion is a result of God’s gracious work in the heart leading to a life of obedience, gratitude, and praise.

Church: All true believers from all time and all places are part of the one, universal church of God (Eph. 1:22-23). However, God unites believes to the universal church by placing them as members of a local church under the care of Elders (1 Peter 5:1-5; Heb. 13:17). A local church is where Christians gather every Lord’s Day (Heb. 10:24-25) to receive God’s grace through word and sacrament. It is in the local church where we keep the commands to love and serve one another (1 John 4:14, 18), and to exhort one another (Heb. 3:12). According to the Belgic Confession Article 28, “…this holy assembly and congregation is the gathering of those who are saved and there is no salvation apart from it…”
